Redwood Park Communities

Redwood Park Communities is a Barrie-based charity founded in 2009. We create safe, affordable, hopeful housing where people thrive in supportive community.

Redwood is moving beyond social service to create social change, strengthening and transforming communities by building homes where people can connect, create, and contribute.

Since opening the doors of our first housing community in 2013, we have provided affordable housing with support to over 500 women, men, and children.

This includes:
– Women who had experienced gender-based violence but are now in new careers and healthy relationships
– Children who were in foster care but were able to return home once their parents secured safe, affordable housing
– Men who were working three jobs but still living in their cars due to the cost of housing

What started as recognizing the need and creating a vision has grown to 59 units across seven housing sites, with dozens more in development.

In 2025, we opened Lillian Place, Simcoe County’s first and only short-term supportive housing centre for families. This partnership with The Salvation Army provides temporary supportive housing in 12 furnished apartments to help families get back on their feet and into permanent housing.

Our current project is acquiring and opening two 10-unit buildings in Barrie to be used as supportive housing for people adults experiencing chronic homelessness in our shelter system and in encampments. This projects are being financed through Redwood Community Housing Bonds. For the first time, Barrie residents have the opportunity to purchase investment bonds that support the creation of affordable housing right here in our community while still earning interest.
