Our Story: Building a Legacy of Giving

A Vision for Barrie

In 2005, a group of passionate community leaders came together with a shared dream: to create a foundation that would nurture and sustain Barrie’s growth through philanthropy. The Barrie Community Foundation (BCF) was born out of this vision—a commitment to build a permanent legacy for the people of Barrie and surrounding communities.

The Early Days: A Spark of Generosity

With the support of our founding members—Alan Atkins, Jim Harmsworth, Patricia McGrail, Michael J. Walker BCF started small but with big aspirations. These pioneers believed in the power of pooling resources to create a lasting impact.

“We saw the potential to create a better future for Barrie by working together. That spirit of collaboration remains at the heart of BCF today.” – [Name]
