Living Green Barrie

Living Green Barrie is a registered charity that’s been leading environmental change for over 30 years. Their mission is to inspire our community to live more sustainably and build resilience against climate change. They’re behind some of Barrie’s most impactful initiatives, like the first plastics recycling program, the city’s first community garden, and the annual Spring Into Clean events.

One of their key programs, “12 Monthly Actions for Climate,” empowers residents to reduce their carbon footprint by supporting local businesses, reducing waste, naturalizing yards, and adopting green technologies. Volunteers are the heart of Living Green, taking part in tree plantings, community clean-ups, and educational workshops.

Their tree planting efforts are particularly important. With a goal of planting 10,000 trees, they’re working hard to combat climate change, improve air quality, and enhance biodiversity. Thanks to support from the Barrie Community Foundation, their tree planting program is expanding, with more opportunities for people to get involved. Throughout May, join free community tree planting events, and don’t miss their Low-Cost Native Tree and Shrub Sale in June, in partnership with Pollinate Barrie.

Living Green Barrie is an under-resourced charity fueled by volunteers, optimism, and creativity. Their annual Gala in the Woods, held every September, raises funds and connects passionate citizens with one of the most important issues of our time.
