2022 Update

February 15, 2022

Looking back, and forward.

2021 was a terribly challenging year. FULL STOP!

We all felt the impact of the pandemic, on our wallets, on our mental health, and on the relationships to the important people in our lives.  We are still missing out on time together, for an impromptu visit, cup of coffee, and mostly just the welcoming company of others.

What we have seen from our community is the absolute commitment to help.  Thank you to each and every person who raised their hand to help – whether it was with a gift to us, to another charity, a lunch dropped off to an isolated neighbour, a thank you to a front-line worker, or any of the myriad ways you’ve found to help out – THANK YOU!

Endowment Funds at Barrie Community Foundation granted and reinvested $26,320 in December 2021.  The registered charities we supported are listed below and grants range from $200 to $7,000.  We know that each organization will use this money to keep serving their clients and making a difference for our neighbours.

NEW ENDOWMENT FUNDS

Since we last updated you, Barrie Community Foundation has welcomed five new endowment funds.  At a current total value of $1.2 MILLION dollars, these new endowments are permanently committed to our community – and here’s the real magic of giving through the Barrie Community Foundation – these funds will grant approximately $40,000 this year.   Doesn’t seem like all that much, does it?  But each fund is invested and expected to grow about 5% a year.

Let’s look 10 years down the road, by 2031 those funds will have granted approximately $500,000 to our community, 25 years from now they will have granted $1.3 MILLION, and will continue to give and grow…forever.  What a gift these families and fundholders have made to us and our future community.

Thank you to our new fundholders.
