The Barrie Community Foundation takes care of all the administrative, legal, investing, accounting and governance responsibilities for you when you set up a fund, so you can focus on what matters most – giving.
With all of the work taken care of for you there are only three things you need to do to start your fund today.
1.Pick your Fund Name
It’s your fund, so it is your choice. It can be a named after a family member, a loved one; whatever you would like to name it.
2.Pick Your Fund Type
Everyone gives in different ways, and the Barrie Community Foundation offers five Fund types to chose from.
General Community Fund
A donation to this fund gives the Foundation the greatest flexibility. The earnings on this fund enable our Board of Directors to respond to current community needs through the awarding of grants to charities throughout Barrie and area.
Field of Interest Fund
Donors identify an area of interest that they would like their donation to support. Examples include the arts, environment, health, seniors, social services, children, recreation, relief of poverty, or education.
Designated Fund
This type of fund gives the donor the opportunity to specify, at the time the fund is established, which particular charity or charities they would like to support in perpetuity.
Donor-Advised Fund
The donor, donor’s family, or designates recommend annually to the Board of Directors which Barrie charitable organizations should receive the income.
Administrative Fund
A donor may choose to provide direct support. The administrative fund is used to offset operating costs.
Flow-through Fund
With this type of Fund you can grant from the full value of the Fund to your favourite causes. This may be used to increase your granting impact, especially as a company.
