In Canada, it is estimated that each year 800,000 children are exposed to a woman being abused. When children witness abuse they receive the message that violence is an acceptable way to resolve conflict, and therefore a normal part of a relationship. Research shows that children who witness violence are more likely to grow up to become victims or abusers. With these staggering facts in mind, the Women and Children’s Shelter of Barrie have set up the Children and Youth Endowment Fund.
This fund has been established to create a sustainable fund for supplies for the Children and Youth in the Shelter, and for community wide educational programs for Children and Youth to help end the cycle of violence. Violence against women and children is not inevitable; prevention is possible and essential to change the future. Help us change the future today, and support the Children and Youth Endowment Fund.
